Writers National Hui

The Māori Writers National Hui is a biannual event facilitated by Te Hā. The first National Hui took place in 2004. The main purpose of the hui is to provide a forum for discussion of Māori literature and facilitate the formation of a comprehensive network of relationships for Māori writers.
The hui enables Māori writers from across the motu to come together to build relationships and share knowledge alongside a programme of workshop sessions, panel discussions and keynote presentations from established writers. The hui acts as an important support structure and stepping stone for emerging writers, and is also considered a benchmark for more established ones. The hui also serves as a site of connection between Māori writers and the wider publishing industry.
Activities of the conference center around Māori writing. The conference gives Māori writers the opportunity to come together as a unified group within Aotearoa’s literary landscape. Discussion takes place around the role writing has to play in representing Māori culture and progressing the issues of the day.
