Te Māori Manaaki Taonga Trustees would also like to acknowledge Kāhui Kaitiaki Māori Museum Workers Network, who are central to the work of the Trust and will have a strong presence at this hui through the support of Te Paerangi National Services.
Te Māori Manaaki Taonga Trust was established by founding Trustees Hirini Moko Mead, Wiremu Cooper and Te Aue Davis in 1994 to administer surplus funds generated by Te Māori to support the education and training of Māori in the care of taonga Māori.
In 2015 the objectives of the Trust were expanded and focused on four pou:
1. Te Ōhākī a Te Māori (the legacy of Te Māori)
- To preserve the record of Te Māori for future generations
- To promote, organise and support activities that honour the legacy of Te Māori
2. Mātauranga Māori
- To promote, organise and support activities concerned with information exchange, thought leadership, knowledge transfer, awareness and understanding of taonga Māori
3. Taonga Māori
- To promote, organise and support activities concerned with education and training in taonga Māori
4. Tāngata Māori
- To promote the training of Māori working in the care and display of taonga Māori
- To promote the education and training of Māori developing new taonga Māori
