Henare Tahuri is a multi-visual artist (painter, sculptor, carver) as well as a performing artist. He is a graduate of Toihoukura- School of Māori Visual Art and Design and went on to receive a Masters of Visual Arts. Tahuri was part of the carving class at Toihoukura under the tutelage of Tā Derek Lardelli.
In 2010 and 2012, Henare alongside his wife Tāwera Tahuri, completed x2 6-week residencies at Evergreen State University in Olympia Washington State USA. In 2016, Tahuri was the recipient of The Tauawhi Man of the Year award which is an award that recognises those who epitomise the values of the Tauawhi Men’s Centre. These values include Whakaaroha- Mercy, Murunga Hara-Forgiveness, Whakapono- Truth, Tika- Justice and Rangimarie- Peace. Henare is currently a kaiako at Te Karaka Area School.
