Ngāruahinie, Ngāti Haua

Kim Kahu (Ngaruahine) is a Taranaki-based Weaver. Her practice spans over 35 years with a sustained focus on providing learning experiences for others and discovering how the weaving materials, techniques and forms of her ancestors can continue to serve the needs of her iwi, hapori and whānau. 

Some of Kim’s work includes the weaving/teaching of kahuwakatere (harakeke funeral wraps) and wahakura (pēpi beds) ensuring that ongoing relationships with whānau/iwi through those transitional periods of Te Ao Mārama and Te Ao Pō are supported with respect and mana.

Her current focus is on teaching whānau to weave their own kākahu to ensure those traditional forms are continued for our future generations.
