Woven into its form are patterns such as Niho Taniwha, Whakapuariari, and Whakatutu – each referencing Tangaroa, the atua of the ocean. The use of pīngao, the golden sand sedge, further honours our deep connection to the moana and the land, grounding this work in the materials and stories passed down through generations.
