Ngāti Ranginui
Paint, acrylic aluminium.
This work is developed around the whakatauki “He kawei hue, he kawei tangata” – Descendants are like the runners of a gourd plant.
The kaupapa of this project explores the concept of mana tangata through painting. This work is developed around the whakataukī “He kāwei hue, he kāwei tangata” – Descendants are like the runners of a gourd plant. This whakataukī was chosen as it emphasises the importance of whakapapa and the interconnections we have to our tūpuna as well as references the hue vine that Tāne Mahuta climbed in order to reach Te Tihi o Manono. The work created is a structure that is similar to Heke seen within wharenui and represents the passing of ancestral knowledge onto ira tangata.
Artwork will be available for pick up/dispatch after the exhibition.
