Whitireia is a collaboration with Joshy Campbell of Wharekahika. These paintings on hue build mātauranga around the origins and future of the art of kōwhaiwhai. Whitireia is the Tairāwhiti name for the new moon.

Whitireia acknowledges the wānanga-the highest level of mastery within the whakapapa of Te Rawheoro. The central tiki symbolises Māui and the taowaru seen in this style, drawing on kōrero of the sacred kupenga and the jawbone of Murirangawhenua, which he used to slow the sun.
