Sharon Fleet

Sharon Fleet is of Te Ati Awa and is a practicing kairaranga. She has a background in business having owned and run a number of successful enterprises and has tutored in a number of tertiary institutes. 

 

She gained her Bachelor of Maori Art Raranga in 2022 through Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. Living in Rotorua has given her the opportunity to meet and work alongside many local master weavers through her membership of Te Roopu Raranga Whatu O Aotearoa, Ki Rotorua and Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. 

 

She says she loves learning new techniques, using colour and excelling in this new stage of her life. 

 

Sharon has already been part of four exhibitions in Rotorua displaying her kete whakairo, kete muka, maro, tarapouahi and other contempory work. 

 

Sharon’s vision is to help pass on traditional weaving techniques and skills, ensuring and maintaining sustainable practice of raranga and mātauranga toi for future generations to enjoy.
