Ngāti Whātua, Ngāti Tahu, Ngā Puhi, Te Roroa
Kia Ora, I am heading into my third year of study working towards gaining a Bachelor of Communications degree with a double major in Political Communication and International Relations.
So far in my studies, I have recognised the depths and importance of social media and how it offers Māori a collective platform of expression and communication. Whether that be at a political level or an artistic level connecting indigenous cultures both nationally and internationally.
I have the privilege of writing about the work of Alex Nathan, who is a relative of mine and a leading Māori artist in Aotearoa. I am also writing about the indigenous connection with North America that has been formed through Māori art and specifically the pivotal Kiwa Exhibition of 2003. I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to work with Toi Māori and gain further knowledge into the work promoting Māori artists of Aotearoa!
