Glenda Hape

I am Glenda Hape, a traditional weaver and Māori artist of Ngāti Pukeko, Ngāti Rangataua and Te Aitanga a Mahaki descent, based in Whakatāne, New Zealand.

My journey with weaving began in 2008, and in 2011 I earned a Bachelor of Art and Visual Culture from Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiārangi. Over time, I have developed a practice that blends traditional Māori weaving techniques with modern multimedia elements. My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, reflecting my deep connection to my culture and heritage. One of my greatest joys is working alongside my daughter, Sonny Hape. Together we founded The Fibre Room, a space dedicated to preserving and sharing the art of Māori weaving.
